Nintendo Switch hardware sales have reached another major milestone, with Nintendo announcing that worldwide sales of the Switch family of consoles have now exceeded 152.12 million units.
Since its launch in March 2017, the hybrid system has set a high bar for success, consolidating Nintendo's footprint in the global gaming market and earning its place among the best-selling video game consoles of all time.
In its recently published financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, Nintendo reported that it sold 10.8 million Nintendo Switch consoles over the past year.
Although this represents a year-on-year decrease of 31.2%, it underlines the enduring appeal of the Switch even as the platform enters its later hardware cycle.
Nintendo also sold 155.41 million software units during the same period, a decrease of 22.2% compared to the prior year.
A detailed breakdown of hardware sales shows that the Nintendo Switch OLED Model remains the dominant version, accounting for 5.86 million units sold.
The base Nintendo Switch followed with 3 million units, while the more compact Nintendo Switch Lite reached 1.95 million units during the fiscal year.
Looking ahead, Nintendo has forecast hardware sales of 4.5 million Switch units and 105 million game units for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
This guidance reflects the company’s expectation of tapering demand as the Switch platform matures after more than seven years on the market.
On the software side, several titles continue to drive long-term success for the platform.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to lead as the best-selling software on Switch, amassing an impressive 68.2 million units sold to date.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has strengthened its place in the top ten with 47.82 million copies, while Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate reached 36.24 million units.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stands at 32.81 million, with Super Mario Odyssey closely following with 29.28 million units sold.
Notably, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet have achieved combined sales of 26.79 million units, edging past the 26.72 million sales for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold 21.73 million units since its highly anticipated release.
Rounding out the list, Super Mario Party and New Super Mario Bros.
U Deluxe have reached 21.16 million and 18.25 million units sold, respectively.
Nintendo's sustained success with the Nintendo Switch—and its hit software franchises—demonstrates the company’s unique ability to shape and maintain a devoted global fanbase.
As the platform continues to set milestones, the gaming world remains eager to follow the next chapter in Nintendo hardware and software innovation.
