Nintendo continues to bolster its classic franchises on the Nintendo Switch platform, with F-Zero 99 receiving a notable content upgrade for fans.
The recent 1.6.0 update not only introduces gameplay enhancements but also debuts a new set of Nintendo Switch Online rewards tied to the celebrated high-speed racer.
Launched in September 2023, F-Zero 99 revitalized the iconic SNES title for modern audiences, adapting the original’s fast-paced, futuristic racing into a 99-player online battle royale format exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
As part of their ongoing support, Nintendo released version 1.6.0, which patches known issues and balances the game for its growing player base.
In tandem with this update, Nintendo has rolled out new F-Zero 99-themed user icons and backgrounds, now redeemable by Nintendo Switch Online members.
According to Nintendo, these exclusive digital rewards are available through the My Nintendo rewards program, where users can exchange their earned Platinum Points for various in-app perks.
Specifically, each of the 12 character icons featuring favorites from F-Zero 99 can be claimed for 10 Platinum Points, while 12 matching backgrounds are accessible for just 5 Platinum Points each.
Notably, owning or playing F-Zero 99 is not a prerequisite to redeem these collectibles; any active Switch Online subscriber with sufficient points can participate.
This current release constitutes the first wave of F-Zero 99 user icons.
Eligible fans have until April 29, 2025, to secure these items.
Nintendo has confirmed that additional waves of F-Zero 99 icons and backgrounds will continue to be offered, with new designs rotating in each week until May 20, 2025.
These limited-time rewards are part of Nintendo’s broader initiative to enhance the value of Nintendo Switch Online membership and celebrate classic franchises through regular digital content drops on the eShop and reward platforms.
Following the debut wave, Nintendo launched another set of icon designs on April 30, further expanding the available customization options for users’ Nintendo Switch profiles.
As always, updates regarding new icon releases and F-Zero 99 game enhancements can be found directly on the official Nintendo website or through regular Nintendo Direct updates.
With F-Zero 99’s positive reception and sustained player engagement, initiatives such as themed icons help maintain community enthusiasm and highlight Nintendo’s commitment to supporting both legacy series and their dedicated fanbases through the Nintendo Switch platform.
