A new discovery in F-Zero GX is sending ripples through retro gaming communities: Japanese modder BTEST4HE has revealed controller input codes that unlock the game’s elusive gold vehicle pieces and several master modes.

F-Zero GX, developed by Sega’s Amusement Vision in cooperation with Nintendo and released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003, remains the definitive console entry in Nintendo’s sci-fi racing franchise.

Its arcade counterpart, F-Zero AX, originally linked with GameCube units to transfer unlockable content between platforms.

The newly publicized sequences allow players to unlock five gold vehicle parts that were traditionally obtainable only through AX-linked events held in Japan.

Those in-person AX events and local distributions never occurred in many regions, and players historically used devices such as Action Replay to replicate the parts.

This official-style input method provides a verified way to access the items on the GameCube without aftermarket hardware.

In journalistic terms: the community discovery demonstrates that decades-old titles can still yield functional, developer-level secrets that alter how players access long-hidden content.

The codes require either simultaneous input across multiple controllers for the gold parts or single-controller inputs for certain master unlocks available from the same in-game F-Zero Shop screen.

Gold vehicle part codes (requires four controllers connected, input one sequence per controller at the F-Zero Shop screen):

Thunderstorm – X, Z, Y, Z, X, Z, Y, X

El Dorado – X, RIGHT, X, Z, Y, LEFT, LEFT, Z

Chrono Symphony – LEFT, RIGHT, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, X, RIGHT, Z

Bahamut – Y, Y, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, Z, X, Y

Gladiator – RIGHT, Z, X, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, X

Single-controller master unlocks available on the same F-Zero Shop screen:

All AX Machines Unlocked: X, Y, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, Y, X, Z, Z, Y, Y, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT

Dark Schneider Unlocked: Z, Z, Z, X, X, X, X, Y, Y, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, Y, Y

All AX Courses Unlocked: X, X, LEFT, RIGHT, Y, Z, Z, Y, LEFT, RIGHT, X, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, X, RIGHT, LEFT, Y, Y

Players will still need in-game tickets to purchase gold parts from the shop after entering the codes.

Note that F-Zero GX has not been re-released on Nintendo Switch or the Nintendo eShop, so these inputs apply to the original GameCube release.

The discovery underscores both the longevity of F-Zero GX and the dedication of its modding community in preserving and unlocking legacy content nearly 23 years after the game’s initial release.
