Nintendo fans across Central America and the Caribbean received disappointing news as the company confirmed that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will not officially launch in these regions in 2025.
This announcement, shared during a closed-door meeting with official distributors on the night of April 29, 2025, highlights significant challenges in bringing the next-generation hardware to these markets.
The Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the globally successful Nintendo Switch console, is poised to build on the brand's legacy with new features and updated hardware.
However, Nintendo executives clarified in their briefing that the absence of a local Nintendo eShop is a major obstacle, making an official launch in Central America and the Caribbean unfeasible for the time being.
Company representatives noted that the lack of a digital storefront restricts their ability to provide essential services and software distribution in these areas.
Additionally, Nintendo cited market size as a deciding factor.
According to statements from the meeting, the company believes that current market conditions in Central America and the Caribbean are "too limited to justify official distribution" for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
As a result, no units have been allocated for these regions in the initial launch scheduled for 2025.
The countries and territories impacted by this decision span much of Central America and the Caribbean, including Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, The Bahamas, Saint Lucia, Granada, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Cristobal and Snows, and Dominica.
For gamers in these regions, the only options for acquiring the Nintendo Switch 2 will be importing the system from markets where it is officially available, such as the United States.
Nintendo also confirmed that official after-sales support, repairs, and customer service will not be provided for imported units sold outside their designated launch territories.
This decision underscores ongoing challenges for Nintendo and other major gaming companies in expanding digital infrastructure and distribution in certain markets.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 will not see an official launch in Central America and the Caribbean in 2025, Nintendo's position leaves the door open for future expansion should market and infrastructure conditions improve.
For now, fans in these regions will need to look abroad for the latest Nintendo hardware.
