Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch globally on June 5th, ushering in a new era for Nintendo hardware with a host of upgraded features.
Among the most anticipated updates is the implementation of an extensive collection of user icons, as confirmed by the Nintendo Today app.
This major enhancement will provide players with unprecedented opportunities to personalize their profiles on Nintendo’s flagship platform.
According to verified details released through the Nintendo Today app, Nintendo Switch 2 will debut with a robust lineup of 258 unique user icons.
This nearly doubles the icon selection offered on the original Nintendo Switch, which featured 147 icons at launch.
The new icons will be available to all Nintendo Switch 2 users directly at launch and will not require the expenditure of Platinum Points or a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, making them more accessible than ever before.
The latest icon collection showcases iconic characters and themes from Nintendo’s most beloved franchises.
Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing each receive an expanded range of customization options, while a significant milestone is achieved for Pokémon fans: for the first time, every starter Pokémon will be available as a user icon from day one, with no subscription barrier.
In addition to these franchise heavyweights, Nintendo has ensured broader representation by including icons from some of its more niche titles, such as the fighting game ARMS.
A Nintendo spokesperson highlighted the company’s continued commitment to accessible customization and fan service, stating that the expanded icon roster is part of an ongoing effort to "ensure every player can express themselves and celebrate their favorite Nintendo worlds on Switch 2."
Since debuting the original Switch in 2017, Nintendo has consistently evolved the user experience and exceeded hardware sales expectations, with the Switch platform surpassing 125 million units worldwide as of its latest earnings report.
By significantly expanding user personalization options on Nintendo Switch 2, the company signals its intent to continue building on that legacy and to engage an even broader global community through accessible, fan-focused features.
Nintendo Switch 2’s comprehensive icon lineup will be integrated seamlessly into the system at launch and can be accessed directly via system settings or the eShop.
This level of inclusivity, combined with an unprecedented variety of choices spanning the most popular and niche franchises, positions Nintendo Switch 2 as a leader in personalization for modern gaming platforms.
With its June 5th release set, Nintendo fans have much to look forward to from day one.
