The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 arrives on November 5th, bringing Nintendo’s classic 1998 adventure to the company’s next-generation handheld-console hybrid.

Developed and published by Nintendo, this remake updates the original Nintendo 64 title with modern controls, visuals, and quality-of-life features while retaining the core story and structure that defined the franchise.

In a trailer posted by Nintendo UK ahead of the November 5 release, the publisher outlined several concrete additions and mechanical changes introduced in the Switch 2 remake.

Nintendo UK said players will no longer need to rely on N64-era movement exploits because the remake adds a dash: holding A after a roll triggers a sustained run.

The company also described a significant control change, noting that Link can now jump at will rather than only when approaching ledges—an explicit mechanical update relative to the N64 original.

Other verified gameplay and presentation changes highlighted by Nintendo UK include gyro aiming for items such as the Hookshot and Fairy Slingshot, a feature previously implemented in the 3DS remake and now present on Switch 2.

Visuals have been reimagined across the board; environments and character models have been redesigned, and certain level elements have been reworked to read more logically in the updated art direction.

The remake also modernizes presentation with fully voiced cutscenes, allowing characters to speak beyond the original’s limited vocalizations.

The ocarina mechanics have been expanded: players can play, hum, or sing into the Switch 2’s built-in microphone to trigger in-game songs as an alternative to button inputs.

Two new systems—Threads of Time, a tapestry-like quest log that records progress, and the Hall of Fallen Foes, a museum area featuring statues of defeated enemies with options for rematches—were confirmed in Nintendo UK’s materials.

Pre-orders remain available ahead of launch.

As reported, the physical edition was listed at $59.88 at Walmart at the time of the announcement.

Nintendo storefronts in San Francisco and New York are scheduled to host midnight launch events, and Best Buy in the United States will hold midnight launches at select locations while carrying additional stock of a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

With its November 5 release, the Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 presents a clear list of verified updates from Nintendo, spanning control refinements, audio and visual overhauls, and new in-game systems intended to support both returning players and newcomers.
