Nintendo has announced a major commercial milestone for its latest console, the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to newly revised sales figures, the Nintendo Switch 2 has now exceeded 5 million units sold worldwide, setting a new pace for the company’s hardware division and reinforcing Nintendo’s strong presence in the gaming industry.
The Nintendo Switch 2, launched as the follow-up to the massively successful Nintendo Switch, continues the hybrid console’s legacy with updated hardware and new features tailored for both handheld and home gaming experiences.
Sales data provided by Nintendo reveals that the Americas represent the largest market for the Switch 2, with approximately 1.8 million units sold since launch.
Japan follows with 1.47 million units, while Europe recorded 1.18 million units sold.
Other regions collectively contributed 0.55 million units to the global sales total.
For context, the original Nintendo Switch sold 2.74 million units in its first month on the market back in 2017.
The Switch 2’s first reported sales, therefore, not only surpass its predecessor’s launch figures but also underscore continued consumer demand and Nintendo’s ability to successfully iterate on its hardware platform.
This early sales momentum bodes well for the company as it continues to support the platform with new titles through the Nintendo eShop and regular updates via Nintendo Direct presentations.
In an official statement, Nintendo highlighted the significance of these results, noting that strong performance in the Americas was a key driver of overall sales.
The company’s revised reporting ensures that figures align with updated internal metrics and global retail channel information.
The Nintendo Switch 2’s performance comes amid high anticipation from both consumers and industry analysts, and is indicative of Nintendo’s ongoing leadership in the hybrid console market.
The company is expected to maintain its aggressive rollout of first-party titles and third-party collaborations, further bolstering the Switch 2’s content library and appeal across global regions.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 already outpacing the launch performance of the original Switch, all eyes are on Nintendo as it sets new benchmarks and aims to replicate or exceed the long-term commercial success of its predecessor.
