Nintendo Continues Retail Expansion in Japan with Nintendo Fukuoka Store Opening in Late 2025
Nintendo, the legendary video game developer and hardware innovator behind the iconic Nintendo Switch, has announced plans to open its fourth official retail store in Japan, titled Nintendo Fukuoka.
The new store will be located at AMU PLAZA HAKATA in JR Hakata City, with its grand opening set for the end of 2025.
This development follows the recent launch of Nintendo San Francisco in the United States—a move which solidified Nintendo’s brick-and-mortar presence outside of its long-running Nintendo New York store.
With the upcoming Fukuoka addition, Japan’s roster of official Nintendo retail stores will include Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and now Fukuoka, each offering fans specialized merchandise and unique, hands-on experiences that can’t be found elsewhere.
Sharing the news via its official Japanese X (formerly Twitter) account on May 19, 2025, Nintendo stated: “Nintendo Fukuoka, our official in-house store, will open inside AMU PLAZA HAKATA at JR Hakata City at the end of 2025.” This statement marked a significant moment for Nintendo’s loyal base in southern Japan, as the company continues to strengthen its direct engagement with fans in major metropolitan areas.
Nintendo’s growing portfolio of official stores provides customers with exclusive access to limited edition products, a chance to experience new Nintendo Switch releases firsthand, and opportunities for in-person events and console customization.
The popularity of locations such as Nintendo TOKYO—opened in 2019—demonstrates the continuing appeal and demand for Nintendo-branded reality spaces, especially as the eShop and digital marketplaces expand online access to games and merchandise.
While an exact opening date for Nintendo Fukuoka has not yet been announced beyond the anticipated late 2025 launch window, anticipation within the region is already mounting.
As with its predecessors, it’s expected that Nintendo Fukuoka will serve as a major destination not just for local gamers, but for fans and visitors from across Japan and beyond.
This upcoming expansion is another demonstration of Nintendo’s commitment to building strong community ties and enhancing the overall customer experience for its dedicated fanbase.
