Description

Nintendo has unveiled an exciting new feature for its subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online, delivering a nostalgic treat to fans of classic gaming hardware.

Beginning today, members can access a range of Switch user profile icons inspired by iconic Nintendo consoles and controllers, including the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube.

This initiative marks yet another enhancement to the Nintendo Switch platform, underlining the company’s commitment to providing engaging digital experiences through its popular online service. The rollout of these classic console icons is structured in multiple phases, starting with the first wave available now and continuing through May 27, 2025.

Following this initial release, Nintendo plans to introduce two more waves of icons over the coming weeks, giving subscribers even more options to personalize their profiles. For fans eager to represent the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube on their accounts, a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership is necessary.

Subscribers with the standard Nintendo Switch Online plan will still enjoy access to an array of other classic console icons, ensuring that everyone can join in the celebration of Nintendo’s hardware legacy. Nintendo Switch user profile icons allow for extensive customization.

Users can combine different icons with borders and backgrounds to create a unique look.

These customizations can be obtained using Platinum Points, a reward currency earned for free by completing a variety of missions through My Nintendo.

Members can redeem these points within the Nintendo Switch Online section, accessible directly from the Switch home screen. This move further highlights Nintendo's ongoing support for its online ecosystem and dedication to community engagement.

In a recently released statement, a company representative emphasized the value of giving players new ways to express their passion for Nintendo history: “We are thrilled to offer our members fresh avenues for personalization, reflecting both their favorite consoles and beloved games.” Nintendo Switch Online, which launched in September 2018, continues to grow with new content updates, expanding access to classic games and features.

The addition of classic console-themed profile icons not only recognizes the heritage of historic platforms like the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube but also strengthens Nintendo’s connection with its dedicated fan base.

As the release schedule continues, subscribers can look forward to celebrating their gaming memories in a whole new way on their Nintendo Switch profiles.
