Nintendo is making strong assurances about the availability of its next-generation console hardware ahead of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
Doug Bowser, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, has confirmed the company’s extensive preparations to ensure that American consumers will be able to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 throughout the crucial holiday shopping season.
Background: With the original Nintendo Switch becoming a best-seller and achieving over 125 million units sold worldwide since its debut in 2017, anticipation for its successor is reaching new highs.
The Nintendo Switch 2, set for release on June 5, 2024, promises advanced hardware capabilities and new experiences for fans and newcomers alike.
This launch follows the company's track record of delivering hit products through strategic planning and strong retail partnerships.
Consumer concerns over potential scarcity are common every time Nintendo unveils major hardware, as initial Switch preorders in 2017 and recent launches like the PlayStation 5 were met with widespread shortages.
In light of this, Bowser underscored Nintendo's confidence regarding its U.S.
supply chain strategy in a recent conversation with IGN.
He clarified, "Nintendo has devised a plan to ensure a continuous and reliable flow of Nintendo Switch 2 units throughout the holiday period, aiming to provide ample inventory across retailers for eager consumers."
Bowser further referenced comments from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, highlighting the company’s official hardware forecast for the upcoming fiscal year.
"Mr.
Furukawa recently outlined that Nintendo is projecting 15 million Switch 2 units and 4.5 million current-generation Switch consoles for the year.
This ambitious forecast is designed to mirror the initial 10-month sales performance of the original Switch," Bowser noted.
He added, "In the United States, we’re confident that our production and supply strategies are well-positioned to meet projected demand.
Early responses to Nintendo Switch 2 have been overwhelmingly positive, as seen through strong preorder numbers, and our plans are focused on maintaining steady product flow through the end of the year."
While most major retailers have reported sellouts of their initial preorder allocations for the Nintendo Switch 2, Bowser encouraged fans not to be discouraged.
Some stores are expected to have limited units available for walk-in customers on launch day, June 5.
Nintendo recommends checking with local retailers for potential availability if you were unable to secure a preorder in advance.
This measured approach to launch inventory reflects Nintendo’s commitment to ensuring fans nationwide can experience the Nintendo Switch 2 when it officially hits store shelves.
With dedicated production pipelines and strong distribution partnerships in place, Nintendo is setting the stage for a smooth and successful debut of its next-gen Switch hardware.
