Ninjala Nintendo Switch Release Delayed: GungHo Online Entertainment Issues Update Amid Pandemic
GungHo Online Entertainment has announced a delay for the anticipated Nintendo Switch title, Ninjala, citing the challenges posed by the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.
The bubble gum-themed online brawler, initially set for a 28th May release, will now debut a month later on 25th June via the Nintendo Switch eShop.
This shift comes just one week after the conclusion of Ninjala's open beta, which, while promising, encountered technical hurdles common in large-scale online tests.
First unveiled during Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation in 2018, Ninjala has generated significant excitement among Switch owners eager for another free-to-play multiplayer experience.
Developed by GungHo Online Entertainment, the company is known for its innovative multiplayer titles and commitment to community engagement.
In an official video statement and written update from GungHo Online Entertainment's president and CEO, Kazuki Morishita, the company addressed the community's disappointment with understanding and transparency.
Morishita explained, "Ninjala is nearing completion, but our ability to test and finalize the game has been considerably restricted because our teams cannot work together in the same physical environment.
We are pushing to deliver Ninjala to our fans, but the health and safety of our staff are our utmost priority.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the launch, and we respectfully request your patience as we take this additional month to ensure the highest quality experience."
The decision to delay Ninjala aligns with a broader trend in the gaming industry, where COVID-19 has led to the postponement of multiple high-profile releases and major gaming events worldwide.
GungHo's openness about the situation and its focus on employee welfare underscore the ongoing impact of the pandemic on game development pipelines.
Ninjala will be available as a free download for all users on the Nintendo Switch eShop when it launches on 25th June.
Given the enthusiastic response to its beta, despite some technical difficulties, Ninjala is poised to attract a large audience when it finally arrives.
Players can look forward to intense, bubble gum-fueled action, innovative multiplayer modes, and a vibrant new addition to the Switch’s online library.
