Ninjala Season 21 Will Run Indefinitely as GungHo Online Shifts Support Strategy

GungHo Online Entertainment has officially announced that Season 21 of their popular free-to-play multiplayer game, Ninjala, will continue indefinitely.

This decision marks a significant shift in the game's ongoing support and development, as the bubblegum ninja action title enters its fifth year on the Nintendo Switch.

First released in June 2020 on the Switch eShop, Ninjala has built a dedicated community with its accessible gameplay, colorful visuals, and unique combat system, which initially drew comparisons to the Splatoon franchise. In its latest update, Version 21.0, GungHo Online detailed the new direction for the game.

The development team stated, "To ensure all Ninjala players can continue to enjoy a stable and engaging experience for the long term, Season 21 will remain ongoing without a scheduled end date." The accompanying Ninjala Pass for Season 21 is also set to remain available indefinitely, providing players continual access to seasonal content. While the transition signals a winding down of major seasonal updates, GungHo Online has committed to ongoing in-game events to maintain community engagement.

The developer confirmed, "We will continue to offer various activities such as WNA Tours," referencing the game's signature tournament events. Notably, the servers supporting Ninjala will remain active.

In a move to future-proof the title, GungHo recently deployed a compatibility update for forthcoming Nintendo Switch hardware, known informally as the "Switch 2." This update, rolled out on June 19, 2025, addressed several previously identified technical issues and ensured seamless playability for current and next-generation Switch owners. Since its launch, Ninjala has achieved millions of downloads worldwide, cementing GungHo Online Entertainment's reputation for delivering long-lasting multiplayer experiences.

When Ninjala was first revealed, GungHo Online's CEO, Kazuki Morishita, described the game as having a distinct identity, setting it apart from expectations of it being a "Splatoon clone." The game received a positive initial reception, with review scores such as seven out of ten from Nintendo Life, reflecting both its promise and areas for growth.

Despite multiple delays before its release, Ninjala's combination of free-to-play accessibility and online competition has resonated strongly on the Nintendo Switch platform. As Season 21 continues without a fixed endpoint, existing and new players alike can look forward to enduring support through special events, regular tournaments, and all core game features remaining fully available on both current and future Nintendo Switch consoles.
