Nightdive Studios, known for its commitment to reviving classic games for new audiences, has officially revealed Outlaws + A Handful of Missions: Remaster during this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase.
This long-awaited update breathes new life into LucasArts’ 1997 first-person shooter Outlaws, preserving its celebrated soundtrack and inventive gameplay while introducing players to a modern gaming experience across multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
The original Outlaws, built with LucasArts' Jedi engine, garnered a loyal following thanks to its captivating Western narrative and acclaimed musical score.
While praised for its engaging gameplay, the initial release faced some criticism for its visual presentation.
Nightdive Studios' remaster addresses these areas, enhancing graphics and integrating features tailored for today’s audiences, such as refined twin-stick controls and gyro support—key improvements that mirror the studio’s recent titles like Heretic + Hexen.
Despite not offering a native version for the rumored Switch 2, Outlaws + A Handful of Missions: Remaster is set to deliver a polished experience on the Nintendo Switch.
While the 4K resolution and 120 frames-per-second performance advertised for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will not be available on the Switch, Nightdive Studios has a strong track record of rigorous optimization.
Nintendo Switch players can expect a consistent 60fps gameplay experience, maintaining the integrity and playability of the title on the hybrid handheld platform.
Key features of the remaster include:
- Action-packed first-person ground combat featuring five versatile weapon types
- Visual enhancements up to 4K and 120FPS on supported platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
- Modern gamepad integration with an updated weapon wheel, haptic feedback, and motion/gyro controls for greater immersion
- Trophy and achievement support across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox ecosystems
- An exclusive Vault, granting access to behind-the-scenes content for devoted fans
- Robust four-player multiplayer modes with crossplay functionality: Deathmatch, Team Play, Capture the Flag, and Kill The Fool With The Chicken
Outlaws + A Handful of Missions: Remaster is scheduled for release later this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The title underscores Nightdive Studios' ongoing dedication to revitalizing classic IPs while expanding their accessibility through modernized features and cross-platform capability.
Further updates, including the official release date and expanded multiplayer details, will be shared as they become available.
Stay tuned for continued coverage as Nightdive Studios brings this cult-favorite LucasArts shooter into the modern era, ready for both returning fans and a new generation of players.
