Sin: Reloaded is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, while Thief: The Dark Project Remastered is slated for release this winter.
Both titles will appear on Nintendo Switch and the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2, with cross-generation upgrade paths.
Nightdive project manager Grover Wimberly IV explained the studio’s reasoning and development timeline in a recent interview.
He said Nightdive paused Sin: Reloaded during a busy slate of remasters, returning to it only after team members with Quake II engine experience became available.
For Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, Wimberly noted that developers transferred over from the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster because both games use the same Dark Engine, making the team transition a logical next step.
Technical targets and platform features
Nightdive confirmed that both games will support the Nintendo Switch 2’s enhanced features.
The studio says the Switch 2 builds will offer clearer textures, faster loading times and smoother frame rates compared with the original Switch, and that mouse support on Switch 2 will be implemented for both Thief and Sin.
Nightdive also stated there will be a free upgrade path from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version without requiring a separate purchase or losing save data.
Sin: Reloaded — what’s new
Sin: Reloaded is built on top of Nightdive’s earlier Sin Gold release and adds a proper remastering pass for multi-platform release.
The studio allows players to toggle between Sin Gold and Sin: Reloaded visuals in real time.
Nightdive says the remaster includes level polish, additional textures and decorations, redesigned backtracking in Episode Five, and multiple gameplay and weapon tweaks (for example: improved flamethrower damage, more effective underwater speargun use, and modified weapon behaviors).
The team also implemented Steam Deck and controller support and reinstated previously unused dialogue to deepen character interactions.
Design philosophy and future plans
Wimberly emphasized Nightdive’s preservation-first approach, saying the studio aims to bring historically significant PC-only titles to console audiences.
He added that Nightdive is experimenting with original content by collaborating with modders and adding new episodes to existing remasters, and that the studio remains open to future original projects built on its KEX technology.
With Sin: Reloaded arriving September 24, 2026 and Thief due this winter, Nintendo players who missed the originals on PC will soon have modern, console-ready versions available via the eShop and physical channels.
