Nintendo once again took center stage with a packed Nintendo Direct presentation, signaling a dynamic future for its platforms.

The June 2025 showcase highlighted an ambitious slate of titles—from flagship franchise revivals to inventive new entries—slated for release on both the current Nintendo Switch and the hotly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.

40th Anniversary: Galaxy Returns and More Legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto opened the event by unveiling sweeping celebrations for Super Mario Bros.' 40th anniversary, set to mark the franchise’s enduring legacy since its debut on September 13, 1985.

As part of the festivities, both 'Super Mario Galaxy' and 'Super Mario Galaxy 2' will launch as a combined package for Nintendo Switch on October 2, featuring enhanced UI, new storybook content, improved resolution, and a free 4K update for Switch 2 owners.

Each title will also be sold separately via the Nintendo eShop, catering to digital collectors.

Two new amiibo—Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas—will enhance gameplay and collectibles when they debut April 2, 2026.

In addition, Miyamoto revealed that 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,' an animated film, will premiere globally starting April 3, 2026.

Visitors to the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto can look forward to exclusive anniversary displays and memorabilia, rounding out a comprehensive celebration of the iconic plumber. Major Franchise Updates: Fire Emblem, Resident Evil, and Metroid Lead the Lineup A reveal trailer for 'Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave' showcased this upcoming turn-based tactical RPG’s intricate narrative and strategic gameplay.

This new entry in Intelligent Systems’ acclaimed series is headed to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Meanwhile, CAPCOM’s 'Resident Evil Requiem' promises to deliver chilling survival horror in a devastated Raccoon City.

Launching on February 27, 2026 for Switch 2, it offers both first- and third-person perspectives alongside the series’ signature blend of combat, puzzles, and resource management.

Notably, 'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' and 'Resident Evil Village' will also arrive on Switch 2 that same day, bringing modern entries of the franchise to Nintendo hardware. Metroid fans were treated to a new look at 'Metroid Prime 4: Beyond', arriving December 4 on both Switch and Switch 2.

Players will join Samus Aran as she investigates a mysterious new planet, utilizing advanced technology and recently acquired psychic abilities.

Complementing the release, new amiibo figures and a 'Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective' book will be available for collectors and longtime fans. New and Third-Party Titles Abound Among the highlights, Supergiant Games’ 'Hades II' was confirmed for a digital console debut on Nintendo Switch 2, offering cross-save compatibility and breathtaking 120 fps performance.

Other anticipated announcements included 'Mario Tennis Fever', a new installment in the beloved sports series; 'Yoshi and the Mysterious Book'; and 'Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection', all set for release across Nintendo platforms in late 2025 and 2026.

Pikachu fans can look forward to 'Pokémon Pokopia', an imaginative take on Pokémon world-building gameplay, arriving on Switch 2 in 2026. Extensive Additions and Innovations Nintendo also revealed updates for hit titles such as 'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' (with new Mega Evolutions and DLC), 'Donkey Kong Bananza', and 'Super Mario Bros.
