Minecraft Copper Update Adds New Armor, Tools, and Copper Golem to Nintendo Switch and Bedrock Editions

Minecraft continues its tradition of frequent and impactful updates, with Mojang revealing a substantial new patch focused on copper—one of the game's most abundant but underutilized materials.

This update is now available for early access in Minecraft Bedrock Beta and Preview, which includes Nintendo Switch among supported platforms.

Notably, these copper enhancements aim to enrich gameplay for both veteran minecrafters and newcomers, especially in the early phases of their adventures. Historically, copper in Minecraft has been easy to mine but often ended up stored away with little practical application.

Recognizing this, Mojang's team has stated that their goal is to significantly "increase the purpose of copper,” allowing the resource to play a much more central role in survival and crafting.

To this end, the latest update introduces a new tier of copper equipment—marking the first time that new armor and tool tiers have been added since the Nether update.

Players will now be able to craft copper chest plates, helmets, boots, tools, and weapons, expanding both defensive and offensive options using this previously overlooked material. A Mojang representative noted that copper's abundance and ease of acquisition means the new gear will serve as a practical stepping stone, especially for players who have yet to stockpile rarer metals like iron or diamond.

As copper is more widely available than iron in the Minecraft world, early-stage adventurers stand to benefit the most from these additions. One of the standout features of this update is the reimagined Copper Golem.

Originally introduced as a concept in the 2021 Minecraft Mob Vote, the Copper Golem ultimately lost out to the Allay in community polling.

However, Mojang has brought the golem back with "more engaging mechanics." The updated Copper Golem can interact with storage in innovative ways—specifically, it can transport items from copper chests to empty storage or group matching items together in a single chest, offering much-needed improvements to player inventory management. These new features are currently live in Minecraft Bedrock Beta and Preview, allowing Nintendo Switch users and other Bedrock Edition players to experience the advancements firsthand ahead of full release.
