Konami Confirms Iconic MGS4 Items Survive Master Collection Conversion

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will retain several of Metal Gear Solid 4's most recognizable in-game items, even as the classic titles receive modern conversions for current platforms.

Announced during a Washagana TV broadcast in Japan, the Master Collection Vol. 2 will bring Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on August 27, 2026.

The release also includes the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database.

Preserving in-game iPod and Playboy distraction item

Konami confirmed that the MGS4 iPod and the deployable Playboy magazine remain selectable and usable in the updated Metal Gear Solid 4 build.

The iPod, originally included by Hideo Kojima to let Solid Snake listen to music while sneaking, is intact in the conversion.

The Playboy magazine, a distraction tool used to divert enemy soldiers for takedowns or stealthy bypasses, is also present.

Notable technical and content updates

Konami also outlined a few targeted changes made for the Master Collection edition.

A legacy URL printed on an in-game crate that once directed players to a now-defunct Hideblog site has been removed.

Loading screens have been redesigned to match the Master Collection's user interface, replacing the original sequence in which Snake smoked during prolonged loading segments.

Aside from these updates, Konami describes the release as a faithful port that preserves the core gameplay and content of the original titles.

Release, platforms, and where to pre-order

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on August 27, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.

Retail pre-orders for Switch and Switch 2 versions are available through major retailers, including Amazon and GameStop, and the collection is expected to appear on digital storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop and other platform stores on launch.

What this means for fans and preservation

For preservation-minded players and fans of Kojima Productions' work, the inclusion of historically notable items like the iPod and Playboy magazine underscores Konami's intent to maintain authenticity in the Master Collection.

With an official release date and cross-platform availability confirmed, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 represents a major reissue of key entries in the Metal Gear franchise for modern hardware.
