Pokémon X and Y: New Mega Evolutions Revealed in CoroCoro Magazine Ahead of Nintendo 3DS Launch

As the global gaming community eagerly anticipates the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, The Pokémon Company continues to build excitement with new official announcements.

Although some fans received early copies of the games ahead of their scheduled debut, major reveals have come directly from the publishers themselves, cutting through the noise of leaks. In the latest issue of Japan’s widely-read CoroCoro magazine, three highly anticipated Mega Evolutions have been officially introduced: Mega Gengar, Mega Aggron, and Mega Tyranitar.

Each of these evolved forms will bring new strategic depth to battles in the upcoming Nintendo 3DS titles. Mega Tyranitar, Game Freak confirms, retains its typing as Rock and Dark upon Mega Evolution.

It maintains the Sand Stream ability, a familiar power for veteran trainers, causing a sandstorm each time Mega Tyranitar joins the battle.

This tactical advantage is expected to contribute to competitive strategies among seasoned players. Mega Aggron receives a notable change, becoming a pure Steel-type after Mega Evolution.

With its new Filter ability, Mega Aggron takes only three-quarters of damage from super-effective moves, a significant boost to its defensive capabilities.

This shift is poised to make Mega Aggron a formidable presence in high-stakes matches. Rounding out this trio, Mega Gengar stands out with the Shadow Tag ability, preventing opponents from switching out or fleeing during battle.

This ability enhances Mega Gengar's role as a disruptive force, cementing its place in the metagame. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, developed by Game Freak for the Nintendo 3DS, mark the first mainline entries in the franchise to receive a simultaneous worldwide launch.

The games are officially set to release on October 12th, bringing new mechanics, Mega Evolutions, and online features to fans across the globe.

Pre-release excitement remains high, with many eagerly awaiting the opportunity to explore the Kalos region and test these newly announced Mega forms. With these newest Mega Evolution reveals, The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Game Freak underscore their commitment to delivering innovative content for both new players and competitive veterans alike.

As the launch date approaches, more updates and information are expected to further amplify anticipation for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on the Nintendo 3DS.
