Mario Kart World Reveals 50 Playable Characters for Nintendo Switch 2 Launch

Mario Kart World is poised to set a new standard for kart-racing excitement as an exclusive launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Developed and published by Nintendo, this latest installment in the iconic franchise launches worldwide on June 5, 2025, both at retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop.

Longtime fans and newcomers alike have much to anticipate, as Mario Kart World promises an expansive roster of playable characters, new gameplay features, and the series’ signature fast-paced racing. Nintendo has officially announced that Mario Kart World will include 50 playable characters at launch, making it the most comprehensive lineup in the franchise’s history.

Players will be able to race as beloved Mushroom Kingdom figures such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser.

Beyond these series regulars, the game adds further depth by making popular antagonists and lesser-seen characters drivable, including Donkey Kong, King Boo, Lakitu, Nabbit, and even classic enemies like Goomba, Conkdor, and Stingby.

This diverse selection allows players to experience the world of Mario Kart from entirely new perspectives. During a recent Mario Kart World Direct presentation, Nintendo unveiled an exciting gameplay mechanic tied to customization.

Racers can visit Yoshi’s Drive-Thru during their races to collect Dash Food, which not only grants a temporary speed boost but also offers a chance to unlock unique outfits.

These unlockable outfits can then be selected from the character selection screen, providing new ways for players to showcase their style on the track.
