Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is set to debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 at the console’s launch, marking an exciting milestone for both the series and dedicated RPG fans.
Developed by Square Enix, the remaster brings the celebrated first entry of the Bravely Default franchise to home consoles for the very first time.
Accompanied by enhanced visuals, new content, and adapted features, this re-release is highly anticipated by seasoned players and newcomers alike.
A major topic of discussion has centered around the game's encounter rate settings—a core gameplay element that offered extensive customization in previous versions.
While early reports and official blog posts indicated that players could adjust random enemy encounters only in 50% intervals (between 50% and 200%), concerns arose over the seeming omission of the beloved option to set encounters at 0%, effectively disabling them entirely.
However, Square Enix representatives have clarified the situation in multiple statements made during PAX East 2025.
Speaking with reporter Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Square Enix confirmed that the remaster will indeed retain the ability to set the encounter rate to 0%.
Schreier reported that while the feature may not be immediately available from the start, players will unlock it as they progress—potentially through an in-game mechanic, accessory, or progression milestone.
Additional confirmations from outlets such as RPGFan support these statements, reaffirming that the highly-requested functionality remains part of the updated game experience.
This level of player control was first introduced in "Bravely Default: For the Sequel," the enhanced Western release of the original Nintendo 3DS title, and has become a staple appreciated for providing flexible difficulty and convenience.
In contrast, the initial Japanese version, "Bravely Default: Flying Fairy," did not include encounter customization, highlighting the evolution of the franchise’s quality-of-life features.
The remaster also includes two brand-new minigames and improvements such as retained fast-forward options.
While some fans have expressed concerns about the game launching as a Game-Key Card title rather than a traditional cartridge, excitement remains strong for its release on Switch 2’s eShop and physical shelves.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 from launch day.
Square Enix’s commitment to listening to community feedback and balancing nostalgia with new content ensures that this classic RPG will continue to resonate with both returning veterans and first-time adventurers.
