Description

Bandai Namco has confirmed that Nintendo Switch owners of Little Nightmares will not receive a free upgrade to the upcoming Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition on Switch 2, citing technical constraints as the reason behind the decision.

This announcement distinguishes the Nintendo Switch platform from others like PlayStation, where players with the original 2017 Little Nightmares on PS4 are eligible for a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 Enhanced Edition. In response to mounting community questions regarding upgrade eligibility, Bandai Namco addressed the situation in an official FAQ.

The company clarified: “Due to technical constraints, owners of Nintendo Switch consoles and Little Nightmares (2017) won’t be able to get access to Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition.

They will need to buy again the game on Nintendo Switch 2.

As a reminder, Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition is only playable on Nintendo Switch 2 and not Nintendo Switch.” This stands in contrast with the upgrade paths offered for other platforms and highlights the platform-specific differences in content delivery and compatibility. Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition will be released on October 10, 2025, exclusively for the new Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

The enhanced release will not be available for the original Nintendo Switch console, emphasizing that players must make a separate purchase if they wish to experience the improved visuals and features on the upcoming platform. Bandai Namco has not provided additional details regarding the technical differences that prevent the upgrade, but this statement confirms there is no customer path for a free or discounted Switch 2 version for previous purchasers on Nintendo Switch. The same release date also sees the arrival of Little Nightmares 3, a brand-new sequel in the popular horror-adventure series, further heightening the anticipation for Switch 2’s enhanced capabilities and expanded eShop library.

Little Nightmares has built a strong reputation among gamers for its atmospheric gameplay and unique art style, earning widespread acclaim since its initial 2017 release.

The Enhanced Edition aims to leverage next-gen hardware for improved performance, graphics, and additional content. Players seeking to access Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition will need to purchase it anew via the Nintendo eShop for Switch 2 when it launches later this year.
