Skatesterre Coming to Nintendo Switch 2: Headup and Goon Squad Announce Arcade Skateboarding Game

Headup and developer Goon Squad have announced Skatesterre, an arcade skateboarding title headed to Nintendo Switch 2.

The game casts players as Dutch skateboarder Sterre Meijer, better known in the scene as Surfsterre, and is being positioned as a homage to the golden era of arcade skateboarding.

The publisher confirmed a digital launch on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide "later this summer." A trailer accompanied the announcement.

Skatesterre is framed as a fast-paced, score-driven skate game built around chaining combos, landing stylish tricks, and pursuing high-score runs across large urban playgrounds.

Levels are packed with rails, ramps, gaps and concealed lines designed to reward exploration and creative routing.

The developer says the stage design encourages players to experiment and hone their skills, with environments intended for both discovery and mastery.

According to the announcement materials, the title will offer a broad trick system for players to learn and combine, backed by a high-energy soundtrack.

The audio direction draws on underground skate punk and skate rock, aiming to evoke the attitude of late-1990s and early-2000s skate culture.

Core features released by the publisher include fast-paced arcade skateboarding gameplay, mission-based objectives across multiple levels, unlockable fashion items and outfits, and large maps full of rails, ramps and secrets.

Key features highlighted by Headup and Goon Squad:

- Arcade-focused skate mechanics emphasizing combos and stylish tricks

- Extensive trick variety for experimentation and combo chaining

- Soundtrack inspired by underground skate punk and skate rock

- Mission-based objectives and high-score runs
