KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat Announced for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch by Shueisha Games and Kairosoft

Shueisha Games and Kairosoft have officially announced KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat for both Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch, further expanding their partnership and continuing both firms’ reputations for delivering hit simulation titles.

Although a release date has yet to be revealed, the announcement marks one of the first concrete confirmations of third-party development for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 platform. KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat is based on "KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops," the iconic Japanese manga series created by Osamu Akimoto, which entertained readers for over 40 years.

The game closely follows Kairosoft’s renowned management simulation formula, merging it with the humor and charm of the beloved manga.

Players will take on the role of Officer Ryotsu Kankichi as he undertakes the daunting task of revitalizing a struggling shopping district with hopes of amassing a billion-yen fortune. According to the official press information, players build up the district from the ground up, initially earning seed money through activities such as gambling and part-time jobs.

As the game progresses, they can develop a variety of shops and facilities, drawing in customers and expanding their revenue streams.

Just as in the manga, players need to keep an eye out for the Chief, who may catch them shirking their duties, adding a layer of strategic tension and humor. KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat boasts a huge roster, featuring over 200 characters, including the full police box crew and a wide range of favorites from the original manga.

The story unfolds via classic episodes and nostalgic story events, accessible through mini-games and as players further develop their districts.

In a nod to Kairosoft’s popular house style, the world of KochiKame has been reimagined with retro-inspired pixel art, adding a layer of authenticity and charm for long-time fans and newcomers alike. While launch timing remains unconfirmed, the collaboration between Shueisha Games and Kairosoft underlines both companies’ desire to blend powerful Japanese cultural properties with engaging, accessible gameplay experiences on Nintendo’s hardware.

This announcement is significant, as it highlights continued support for simulation and manga-based titles on both the Nintendo Switch and the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Stay tuned for further updates on KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat and its release date.

In the meantime, fans can catch a glimpse of the first official trailer to get an early look at the charming pixel-take on the world of Ryotsu Kankichi.
