Kirby and the Forgotten Land Switch 2 Expansion Announced: Star-Crossed World Arrives August 2025

Nintendo has officially announced "Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World," an expansion set for release exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2025.

As the latest update to 2022’s critically acclaimed Kirby platformer, this expansion ushers in new game modes, fresh stages, enhanced visuals, and a rich assortment of additional content for both returning fans and newcomers. Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, the original "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" quickly became a staple of the Nintendo Switch library, earning praise for its inventive gameplay and vibrant design.

By March 2023, the title had sold over 6 million units worldwide, making it one of the franchise’s best-selling entries to date.

With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the game receives a substantial upgrade: higher resolution graphics and improved frame rates across both the original adventure and the Star-Crossed World expansion. According to the company’s press materials, players can expect a brand-new storyline: "A vast meteor has collided with the Forgotten Land, threatening to unleash a long-dormant evil.

Kirby must collect 'Starries'—fragments of stars spread across new and remixed locales—in order to preserve peace.” These additions will see players exploring previously inaccessible areas such as building rooftops and ocean floors, each altered by the meteor’s destructive impact. Among the expansion’s most anticipated features are three new Mouthful Modes—Spring Mouth, Gear Mouth, and Sign Mouth—each introducing unique mechanics and ways to interact with the game’s environments.

Additionally, new activities await: players can collect Starry Coins throughout stages and exchange them for figurines with Astronomer Waddle Dee or take on a challenging boss rush mode titled "The Ultimate Cup Z EX" in the Colosseum. Players who already own "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" on Nintendo Switch will be able to access the Star-Crossed World expansion by purchasing a $19.99 upgrade pack once available through the eShop.
