Description

At the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience: Tokyo event, Japanese speedrunner Ikaboze made headlines as the first known player to conquer The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

The event previewed highly anticipated hardware and software, drawing attention from fans and industry observers eager to witness the next generation of Nintendo gaming.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, originally released for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U in 2017, has maintained its reputation as a groundbreaking open-world adventure.

Now, five years after its initial release, the game is poised to return on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console with notable improvements.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition features enhanced graphics, faster load times, and greater performance stability, ensuring a refreshed experience for both veterans and newcomers.

During the Tokyo event, Ikaboze utilized an autosave strategically placed near Hyrule Castle.

Abandoning his remaining gear, he raced through the fortress and successfully overcame the formidable adversaries, Calamity Ganon and Dark Beast Ganon, within the constrained 20-minute demo period.

This achievement positions Ikaboze as the world's first recorded player to complete Link's quest in the official Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild. Nintendo representatives emphasized that while this enhanced edition brings a smoother frame rate and upgraded visuals, the Expansion Pass downloadable content will not be bundled with the new release.

However, individuals who already own the base game and maintain an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription will be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is set for global launch on June 5, 2025.

Players can look forward to both physical and digital versions, available at retail and through the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2.

With these substantial updates, Nintendo continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering premium experiences for its flagship franchises, solidifying The Legend of Zelda's legacy for a new era of gamers.
