Nintendo continues to dominate the Japanese gaming market as Famitsu’s latest sales charts reveal remarkable performances across key Nintendo Switch titles.

The freshly released rankings, covering the weeks of December 23rd–29th and December 30th–January 5th, spotlight Nintendo-published favorites maintaining strong momentum into the new year, despite a lack of hardware figures for this period. According to Famitsu’s official sales data, the Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Mario Party Jamboree made significant headlines by surpassing the coveted 1 million unit mark.

In the week ending December 29th, Super Mario Party Jamboree sold 119,176 copies, bringing its total sales to 954,261 units.

By the following week, the title had moved an additional 117,307 units, pushing its cumulative sales to an impressive 1,071,568 units.

This achievement secures Super Mario Party Jamboree’s place as one of the most successful recent releases on the Switch platform. The top ten games for both reporting periods share the same lineup, demonstrating the enduring appeal of Nintendo Switch titles among Japanese players.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, published for the Switch, maintained its strong presence, selling 35,834 copies (totaling 930,505 units) and then 32,402 more (reaching 962,907 units) in successive weeks.

Other long-standing hits such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continues to expand its legacy with a total of 6,197,554 units sold, and Minecraft, now at 3,779,481 units, further reinforce the platform’s lasting popularity. Additional highlights from Famitsu’s charts include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which reached 8,038,212 units sold after two weeks, and Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate, which climbed past the 5.7 million mark.

Newer titles such as Mario & Luigi: Brothership and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom also maintained robust sales, surpassing 179,000 and 385,000 units respectively by early January. Famitsu’s report for this period does not include hardware sales, leaving a gap in understanding the Switch console’s momentum during the highly competitive holiday season.

However, software performance alone underlines Nintendo’s ongoing dominance in the Japanese market, with all top ten entries being Nintendo Switch titles—many of which are first-party exclusives or staple franchise entries. As industry-watchers look ahead to further updates, it is evident that the Nintendo Switch’s eShop offerings, longstanding franchises, and a steady cadence of new releases keep the platform at the forefront of the Japanese gaming scene.

With Super Mario Party Jamboree’s milestone and consistent performances from other blockbuster titles, Nintendo continues to achieve notable commercial success as we move into 2025. For those tracking Japanese game sales, the latest Famitsu charts are a clear indicator of the Nintendo Switch’s prevailing influence, reinforcing the console’s role as a primary destination for both new releases and evergreen fan favorites.
