Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Tops Japanese Physical Game Sales on Switch 2

Square Enix has secured the top spot on the Japanese physical games sales chart, with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade achieving a notable debut during the week of January 19th to 25th.

According to the latest data released by Famitsu, the title sold 23,428 units for the Nintendo Switch 2 in its launch week, outpacing other major competitors and underlining the enduring appeal of the Final Fantasy franchise in the Japanese market. Following closely behind was Mario Kart World, also on Switch 2, with sales figures reaching 13,812 units for the week.

The classic Nintendo racing series continues its long-standing success, bringing its cumulative total to a remarkable 2,792,701 units sold.

Animal Crossing maintains its dominance as well, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition selling 11,605 units, and the original Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the standard Nintendo Switch selling an additional 10,070 units.

These results further highlight the ongoing popularity of Nintendo’s key franchises across the latest hardware platforms. Several new entries also made a significant impact this week.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins broke into the top five with a debut of 8,580 units sold on Nintendo Switch 2, while Broccoli’s unique puzzle title, UN:LOGICAL, ranked sixth with 7,907 units sold.

Additionally, Pokémon Legends: Z-A saw continued strong performance, with the Nintendo Switch 2 edition selling 7,496 units and the standard Switch version moving 7,385 units, boosting its impressive lifetime totals. Hardware sales painted a similarly strong picture for Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch 2 maintained its leadership in the Japanese market, shifting an additional 72,086 units during the same period.

This brings the lifetime sales figure for Switch 2 to an impressive 4,237,500 units.

The Switch Lite and the original Switch model also reported robust numbers, selling 8,577 and 5,496 units respectively, while the Switch OLED posted 3,442 units.

When combining all three Switch models, Nintendo achieved a sum of 17,515 units for the week, further solidifying its dominance in the hardware space. PlayStation and Xbox hardware trailed behind, with the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition moving 5,524 units, the standard PlayStation 5 at 2,655 units, and the Pro version at 1,587 units.

Xbox Series X Digital Edition sold 631 units, and the Series X and S models recorded 19 and 43 units, respectively. Square Enix’s technical achievement in bringing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 demonstrates the strength of third-party support on Nintendo’s new hardware.

These sales numbers reflect both the enduring legacy of classic franchises and the appeal of innovative new titles for the Japanese market.
