OVER REQUIEMZ Debuts at No.1 in Latest Japanese Nintendo Switch Sales Charts With the Nintendo Switch 2’s highly anticipated release date of June 5th just around the corner, sales momentum for existing titles appears tempered.

Nonetheless, the Japanese video game market continues to deliver notable success stories, as highlighted by the latest charts published by Famitsu. The standout performer this week is the Japanese visual novel OVER REQUIEMZ, developed by Idea Factory.

In its debut week, OVER REQUIEMZ seized the top spot on the Nintendo Switch sales chart, moving an impressive 7,286 units.

This strong entrance propelled OVER REQUIEMZ ahead of Nintendo’s established party game, Super Mario Party Jamboree, which secured 6,261 sales during the same period.

Super Mario Party Jamboree, a perennial bestseller, now boasts a lifetime sales total of over 1.27 million units on the Switch platform. Another noteworthy new entry, Hello Kitty Island Adventure: Deluxe Edition, also made a splash with its physical release, selling 3,838 copies and landing at seventh place.

This result reflects the ongoing popularity of cross-media franchises and collectible editions among Japanese gamers. Other titles in the top ten remain consistent with previous weeks, demonstrating enduring appeal.

Minecraft on Switch continues its remarkable run, adding 5,074 sales for a cumulative total of more than 3.86 million units.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, two of Nintendo’s most successful Switch exclusives, maintain a firm grip on the charts, with lifetime sales exceeding 8 million and 6.3 million copies, respectively.

Notably, Monster Hunter Wilds stands as the only non-Nintendo Switch title to breach the top ten, selling 4,313 units on PlayStation 5. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, another staple of the Nintendo first-party lineup, retained a presence within the top ten, moving 3,084 copies and reaching a running total of 104,513 units.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Nintendo Switch Sports round out the list, underlining the continued demand for family-friendly and classic gaming experiences in the Japanese market. Turning to hardware performance, the Switch family’s dominance persists.

The Switch OLED model led all hardware with 15,211 units sold, followed by the Switch Lite at 7,970 units.

The original Switch drew 2,227 sales, bringing the combined total of Switch platform units for this reporting period to 25,408.

In comparison, the PlayStation 5 and its various editions together accounted for 7,497 units, while Xbox Series consoles recorded modest numbers. As Japanese retailers and consumers await the next generation with the Switch 2, these consistent hardware and software figures reaffirm Nintendo’s formidable market position in the region.

With major new releases on the horizon, industry watchers will continue to look to Famitsu’s charts for insights into upcoming trends, platform performance, and the shifting landscape of Japanese video game preferences.
