Dragon Slayer Chronicle Reprint Brings 12 Classic Falcom Games to Windows in 2023

Nihon Falcom's early Dragon Slayer series is getting a physical reprint for Windows PCs in 2023, as D4 Enterprise prepares a relaunch of the Dragon Slayer Chronicle collection.

Originally published in 2012, Dragon Slayer Chronicle compiles seminal Falcom releases from 1984 through 1995.

The new edition carries a manufacturer price of ¥14,080 and will be distributed for Windows platforms via D4 Enterprise, a company known for handling retro reissues of classic Japanese PC and console software.

Falcom, founded in 1981 and best known for franchises such as Ys and The Legend of Heroes, was an early pioneer of Japanese PC role-playing games.

The Dragon Slayer Chronicle collection gathers multiple platform builds and regional variants that trace the evolution of the studio's design approach across PC-8801, MSX, PC-9801, and PCE hardware.

The reprint preserves several physical presentation elements from the original 2012 package while introducing a few changes.

The previous release used a cardboard box; the 2023 relaunch switches to a plastic box and includes special cover inlays that let owners customize the package art.

Publisher notes indicate the collection emphasizes archival fidelity for printed materials and packaging.

Publisher statement, translated and rendered for clarity: the manuals for Dragon Slayer and Xanadu have been reprinted as closely as possible, including reproduction of the original bag binding, and the package artwork for each title is provided as collectible image cards.

These reprints aim to recreate the tactile and visual experience that accompanied the original releases.

The Dragon Slayer Chronicle reprint includes 12 titles and multiple versions, listed here with their original platform builds: Dragon Slayer (PC-8801 ver1.1, PC-8801 ver2.0, MSX); Xanadu (PC-8801); Xanadu Scenario II (PC-8801); Romancia (PC-8801, MSX2); Dragon Slayer IV Dragon Slayer Family (MSX2); Sorcerian (PC-8801); Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes (PC-9801); Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes II (PC-9801); Lord Monarch (PC-9801); Advanced Lord Monarch (PC-9801); Legend of the Wind Xanadu (PCE); Legend of the Wind Xanadu II (PCE).

All games in this collection are presented in Japanese.

For retro collectors and fans of Falcom's hardware-era output, the Dragon Slayer Chronicle reprint is positioned as an archival, collectible release that consolidates historically significant builds for Windows users.

D4 Enterprise's relaunch preserves both the software and many physical artifacts associated with the original releases.
