Background and release
Originally developed by Hudson Soft and first released in Japan in 1995, Panic Bomber W is a falling-block puzzle game that evolved from the earlier Super Bomberman Panic Bomber on the PC Engine Super CD-ROM².
The Super Bomberman Collection compilation itself launched in February 2026 for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Steam and included seven Bomberman entries before this update.
Konami identified Panic Bomber W as the third previously Japan-only entry to be brought to Western audiences in the collection, following Super Bomberman 4 and Super Bomberman 5.
What the update adds
The August 20, 2026 update adds Panic Bomber W across all platforms that host the Super Bomberman Collection.
Konami also extended the collection's BOMB Radio feature with several Panic Bomber W music tracks, enabling players to listen to the soundtrack independently of gameplay.
Gameplay description (paraphrased)
Konami describes Panic Bomber W as a competitive puzzle experience for one to four players.
The game tasks players with dropping colored blocks, creating chain reactions to attack opponents and building a meter that, when filled, triggers powerful Big Bombs.
Critical context and physical editions
Industry coverage has noted the Collection’s value as a way to sample Bomberman’s varied gameplay across generations.
In their Switch 2 review, Nintendo Life praised the compilation for highlighting some of Bomberman’s best gameplay moments.
Physical editions of the Super Bomberman Collection are planned for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with pre-orders listed through distributor Red Art Games.
Availability and platforms
Panic Bomber W is available now as part of the free Super Bomberman Collection update on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
Players who already own the collection on these platforms will receive the game through the update released August 20, 2026.
