It Takes Two originally launched on March 26, 2021, and was developed by Hazelight under the direction of Josef Fares; the studio previously gained attention for A Way Out (2018).
According to the announcement, the Switch 2 edition is available now and includes features designed to streamline cooperative play on Nintendo’s new hardware.
Hazelight confirmed that the package introduces a free Friend’s Pass that allows players to join a friend’s game even if only one player owns it, and the studio said this will enable cross-platform co-op where supported.
The developer also clarified that owners of the existing Nintendo Switch version will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Switch 2 build.
Hazelight described the technical improvements in journalistic terms: the Nintendo Switch 2 version delivers higher resolution, improved frame rates, and richer visual effects to create a smoother, more immersive experience on the new hardware.
Those enhancements reflect the Switch 2’s increased performance capabilities compared with the original Nintendo Switch.
A new trailer accompanying the release highlights gameplay and visual updates; the trailer is available through Hazelight’s and Electronic Arts’ official channels.
The Switch 2 launch follows the game’s multi-platform history—It Takes Two has been available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC since its 2021 debut—and brings the co-op-focused title to Nintendo’s upgraded platform.
For current Nintendo Switch owners, the free upgrade path means saved purchases carry forward to the Switch 2 edition; players should check the Nintendo eShop on their device for update availability and any platform-specific instructions.
Hazelight and EA’s rollout focuses on preserving the franchise’s cooperative accessibility—maintaining Friend’s Pass and improving performance for players on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
With Hazelight continuing to prioritize shared-play experiences, the Switch 2 release positions It Takes Two to reach Nintendo’s player base with enhanced technical fidelity while keeping the game’s signature couch-and-online co-op accessible through the Friend’s Pass system.
