Square Enix rolled out a free eShop demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World following a showcase segment in the latest Nintendo Direct.

The demo is available now on Nintendo Switch and gives players a hands-on introduction to the game's recruiting, raising, and synthesis systems from the very start of the story.

What the demo includes

- The playable demo covers the opening sequence through the conclusion of events in Witherwood, allowing players to progress and learn core mechanics before the full release.

- Players who retain their demo save data can transfer up to eight monsters from their demo roster into the full game, according to Square Enix.

This transfer applies to monsters in both the main party and reserve slots.

- Only monsters of rank G and rank F can be befriended during the demo, which limits early recruitment to lower-tier creatures while preserving progression balance for the full release.

Bonus items and restrictions

Square Enix also confirmed that playing the demo rewards an item set for use in the full game, labeled as the Wrangler's Bundle.

The Wrangler's Bundle includes:

- Ring of Impulse x1

- Bonus Ball x1

- Smoked Sirloin x5

The publisher notes that the demo itself cannot claim bonus content directly; the item set is intended for transfer or redemption once players move into the full retail version.

Developer and series context

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is part of the long-running Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series produced by Square Enix.

The series has historically focused on monster recruitment and synthesis mechanics distinct from mainline Dragon Quest entries.

The Nintendo Direct preview provided the latest official footage and highlighted the demo availability on Nintendo Switch via the eShop.

How to get the demo

Players can download the free demo now from the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

Keep demo save data if you want to move eligible monsters and the Wrangler's Bundle item set into the full game once you purchase it.
