Description

Arc System Works Europe has officially released the much-anticipated 2D fighter, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, on Nintendo Switch.

Developed collaboratively by Bushiroad Games and Eighting, the game has arrived today after a brief delay, marking another exciting addition to the console’s ever-growing library of anime-inspired fighting games. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact builds on the rich legacy of the Hunter x Hunter franchise, created by renowned manga author and illustrator Yoshihiro Togashi.

Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, the Hunter x Hunter series has amassed a passionate global fanbase, standing as one of anime’s most revered staples.

While its popularity may not quite match that of giants like Dragon Ball or Naruto, Hunter x Hunter's devoted following continues to drive demand for new adaptations across various media—including video games. This latest title features classic 2D fighting mechanics with a modern twist: players form teams of three from a roster filled with beloved series characters and engage in tag-team battles.

According to the official material, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact allows players to "assemble a squad of three fighters and swap between them dynamically using a tag system.

You can call in an ally for an assist or switch out characters on the fly, enabling strategic depth and high-paced action." Veteran fighting game developer Eighting brings proven expertise to the project, having previously delivered acclaimed titles such as Naruto: Clash of the Ninja.

The company's experience is evident in Nen x Impact's focus on solid, responsive combat fundamentals.

Early critics have noted that while the game's visuals may not rival the flashiest fighters on the Nintendo Switch, its robust mechanics could appeal to genre fans—a sentiment echoed in several previews and the developer's official communications. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for £49.99.

Fans and collectors can also opt for a physical release, including a limited edition featuring several exclusive extras: a special collector’s box, art book, acrylic stand, Season 1 Pass, and an alternate costume pack for popular characters Hisoka and Kurapika.

The limited edition is available for £84.99. It’s worth noting that the game’s launch follows a slight delay intended to implement rollback netcode, aiming to ensure a smoother online experience.

Additionally, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact briefly made headlines for a controversial content ban in Australia, highlighting the series’ tendency to push the envelope even in video game format. With its blend of fan-favorite characters, strategic 3v3 tag-team gameplay, and deep roots in a classic anime universe, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact delivers a compelling new entry for fighting game enthusiasts and Hunter x Hunter fans alike.

The game is now available via the Nintendo eShop and select retailers worldwide.
