Toei Animation has officially announced Expelled from Paradise: The Stellar Angel for Nintendo Switch with a confirmed release date of November 21, 2026.
The title is described by the studio as the first game in the Expelled from Paradise series and a brand-new science-fiction visual novel that continues the narrative established by the 2014 anime film Expelled from Paradise.
Background and context
Expelled from Paradise (2014) is a sci-fi feature that imagines a post-apocalyptic Earth where most of humanity exists as data within a virtual environment called DEVA.
Toei Animation’s new project positions the game as a direct follow-up to that film and dovetails with an upcoming film sequel also titled Expelled from Paradise: The Stellar Angel, which Toei indicated is due this November.
The Switch release will be the franchise’s first video game adaptation, bringing the IP’s story and characters to a console audience.
What the game includes
Toei Animation frames the game as a visual novel that picks up after the events of the 2014 film.
Players will follow Angela Balzac — formerly a DEVA System Security Officer who chose a physical life on the surface — and Dingo, her companion and former DEVA Observer.
The studio explained that the narrative centers on choice: the K2-system is the game’s decision mechanic, designed to chart Angela’s emotional journey and deliver multiple endings, including irreversible outcomes.
Key confirmed features
- Multiple endings, including bad endings.
- Full voice acting for major scenes.
- TIPS feature for in-depth exploration of game terminology and lore.
- Standard visual novel conveniences: read-text skip, backlog, autosave.
- Japanese and English language support, switchable in-game.
Story setting and characters
The game is set in A.D. 2400 after the Nano Hazard devastated civilization and prompted mass migration into DEVA.
New threats described by Toei include spreading Paraflora and emerging colossal worms centered on the abandoned desert town of Svarga.
Angela and Dingo’s backstories are reiterated: Angela as a former DEVA security asset who defected, and Dingo (Zarik Kajiwara) as an ex-Observer who supported her during prior incidents.
Release and platform
Expelled from Paradise: The Stellar Angel launches for Nintendo Switch on November 21, 2026.
Toei Animation is positioning the title as both a companion to the franchise’s film sequel and the series’ debut in games, delivering a narrative-driven experience built around branching choices and character-driven storytelling.
