Neo Geo AES+ Launch Confirmed for Nov 12 After Surge of Preorders
SNK and Plaion have confirmed a November 12 launch for the Neo Geo AES+, a modern recreation of the classic 1990s AES home system.
The project is being produced by Plaion under the wider Embracer Group umbrella and ships with ten curated Neo Geo titles at launch.
The announcement has generated significant commercial attention, prompting the team to increase production forecasts ahead of the console’s release.
Strong commercial response and production update
In a LinkedIn post, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors explained that the global retro community’s reaction was “nothing short of overwhelming.” He reported that paid preorders placed within the first 24 hours exceeded the originally forecasted annual volume for the Neo Geo AES+, and that sales have continued strongly across direct channels, online retailers, and specialist stores.
Wingefors also noted the console briefly reached the #1 spot in the Video Games category on Amazon US, and that Plaion has adjusted its production forecasts to meet demand prior to the November 12 release.
Team and archive contributions
Wingefors highlighted the role of the Embracer Games Archive as essential to making the AES+ project feasible, specifically acknowledging Archive lead Martin Lindell and Plaion staff Ben Jones and Craig McNicol for their contributions.
He also thanked SNK CEO Kenji Matsubara for entrusting Plaion and Embracer with the stewardship of the Neo Geo brand.
Launch lineup, SKUs, and pricing
Plaion confirmed the Neo Geo AES+ will launch with ten preinstalled titles: Metal Slug; The King Of Fighters 2002; Garou: Mark of the Wolves; Big Tournament Golf / Neo Turf Masters; Shock Troopers; Samurai Shodown V Special; Pulstar; Twinkle Star Sprites; Magician Lord; and Over Top.
The console will be offered in three SKUs: Standard (£179.99 / €199.99 / $249.99 / ¥32,800), Anniversary Edition bundle (£269.99 / €299.99 / $349.99 / ¥49,800), and Ultimate (£799.99 / €899.99 / $999.99 / ¥150,000).
A new chapter for Neo Geo
Company representatives described the AES+ release as the start of a new chapter for the Neo Geo legacy, positioning the hardware as both a collector’s item and a way to reintroduce classic titles to modern audiences.
Many Neo Geo classics have previously been made available on modern platforms, including releases on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and the AES+ launch will add a dedicated hardware option for fans and collectors.
With preorders outpacing initial expectations and a confirmed November 12 street date, the Neo Geo AES+ will be one of the most closely watched retro hardware launches of the year.
