As the Nintendo Switch 2 solidifies its presence in the evolving console market, both Nintendo and third-party accessory makers are racing to meet the demands of its expanding user base.

Notably, renowned peripheral manufacturer Hori has announced a new, compact camera attachment officially licensed for Nintendo Switch 2.

Unlike previous camera add-ons such as Nintendo’s proprietary Switch 2 camera or Hori’s earlier Piranha Plant-themed release, this latest model targets users who favor handheld gaming and are seeking greater portability and convenience. Officially unveiled on Amazon Japan and confirmed for a June 5 release, Hori’s newest Switch 2 camera distinguishes itself with an exceptionally compact design.

This makes it an attractive alternative to the more robust—and often bulkier—camera models currently available from both Nintendo and Hori.

Despite its petite size, the accessory offers a trio of mounting options, letting players seamlessly switch between handheld, tabletop, and TV modes.

Specifically, the camera unit can be detached and plugged directly into the upper USB-C port of the Switch 2 console, enabling close-up video streaming or conferencing even during portable play.

Alternatively, the package includes a cubic stand for stable placement on a TV stand as well as a clip for attaching the camera to the top of a television, ensuring optimal angles for group sessions or solo broadcasts. While these mounting options have also been available on the Piranha Plant model, Hori’s new camera is substantially more compact, addressing one of the key complaints from handheld users about previous, bulkier executions.

On the technical front, the camera is equipped to capture video at 480p, consistent with Hori’s prior offerings, whereas Nintendo’s official Switch 2 camera supports up to 1080p resolution.

This resolution difference may be notable for users seeking high-definition streaming or video conferencing, but for those prioritizing portability, Hori’s latest entry delivers an appealing balance between size and basic functionality. At present, the compact Hori Switch 2 camera is exclusive to Amazon Japan with a confirmed release date of June 5, 2024.
