Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch

Atari, Pipeworks and Toho International have confirmed that Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is in development for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, with a worldwide retail and digital release scheduled for 3 November 2026 on the Nintendo eShop.

The remaster rebuilds the 2002 arena brawler into a modern release using Unreal Engine 5 and aims to preserve the original game's core mechanics while updating presentation and online features.

Originally released in 2002 on GameCube and Xbox and developed by Pipeworks, Destroy All Monsters Melee established itself as a fan-favourite kaiju arena fighter that let players wage city-scale battles as Godzilla-era monsters.

The remaster keeps that legacy front and centre: Pipeworks and Atari say the game has been rebuilt from the ground up with 4K performance targets and what the team describes as 99% mechanical fidelity to the 2002 gameplay.

The updated build adds modern features expected of a next-generation re-release.

Confirmed mechanics include a streamlined currency-based unlock system, online matchmaking for competitive play, and native support for current haptics.

Environments remain a focal point, with fully destructible cities listed among the stages — Tokyo and San Francisco are named examples — and a roster that includes classic entries such as the Showa-era Mechagodzilla.

Pipeworks chief executive Lindsay Gupton framed the project as an opportunity to revisit and fulfil the original vision using contemporary development tools, noting that the team focused on preserving the environmental destruction and building-interaction that defined the original experience.

Atari chief creative officer Mike Mika emphasized the sense of responsibility in returning to a beloved franchise and cited Atari’s historical role as the original publisher in 2002, alongside Pipeworks’ involvement as the original developer and kaiju experts.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered will be available both at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on 3 November 2026.

The release marks a notable collaboration between Atari, Pipeworks and Toho International to bring a classic kaiju arena brawler to Nintendo’s current and next-generation Switch platforms.
