Epic Games has officially launched Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop, marking a significant advancement for the popular battle royale title on Nintendo's next-generation hardware.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 set for its worldwide release tomorrow, players can already access and enjoy Fortnite, experiencing a host of technical enhancements that distinguish it sharply from its performance on the original Nintendo Switch system.
Fortnite’s arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 brings a robust upgrade in both graphics and gameplay fluidity.
The game now runs at 60 frames per second, providing a noticeably smoother experience in both docked and handheld modes.
Visual fidelity has also been elevated, featuring higher resolutions—2176×1224 when docked and 1600×900 in handheld mode.
Players will notice greater view distances, sharper textures, improved shadow quality, and enhanced water effects, all contributing to a much richer gaming experience.
Epic Games has confirmed that additional features capitalize on the Switch 2’s improved hardware.
These include advanced clothing physics, an expanded replay system to review Battle Royale matches from multiple perspectives, and full video capture support using the Nintendo Switch’s dedicated capture button.
Enhanced rendering technologies such as full 'desktop' rendering, high-detail geometry, distance field ambient occlusion in docked mode, and sophisticated shadow casting further push graphical boundaries on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version also supports GameChat for seamless multiplayer interaction and will introduce mouse control compatibility alongside Joy-Con 2 starting June 7.
These features reflect Epic Games' commitment to utilizing new hardware capabilities to provide a richer, more engaging Fortnite experience for the Nintendo community.
Despite these improvements, the popular Save the World co-op game mode remains unavailable on Nintendo Switch 2.
According to Epic Games’ official FAQ, "Save the World is not available to play on Nintendo Switch 2".
Still, all other Fortnite game modes, including the core Battle Royale and various creative experiences, are accessible to players on the new system.
Fortnite's continued evolution highlights Epic Games’ ongoing collaboration with Nintendo, bringing its flagship title to an even broader global audience through new hardware advancements.
As Nintendo Switch 2 prepares for its full release, Fortnite fans can look forward to a refreshed and optimized experience, further solidifying the partnership between Nintendo and one of the world’s most popular online games.
