Nintendo confirmed during today’s Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Direct that the next mainline Fire Emblem title will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 17.
Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave arrives with pre-orders available now on the Nintendo eShop and a special Dagdan Collection physical edition slated for the same day.
Setting and premise
Nintendo outlined the game world as the Dagdan Empire, a once-prosperous realm now imperiled by the return of the demon god Balor.
The publisher explained that five years after the Heroic Games, four heroes who shaped that tournament have vanished and the progenitor god Sothis tasks a single soul with preventing the empire's destruction.
Players take that role and can use the goddess Fortuna's time-manipulation powers to revisit the Heroic Games era and change the fates of the four playable Heroes.
Playable heroes and branching paths
Fortune's Weave lets players assume the roles of four distinct Heroes whose choices shape parallel narratives.
The roster includes Cai from the village of Ribeira, Dietrich the battle-driven castaway, Theodora from the kingdom of Saramis, and Leda, a noble musician turned avenger.
Nintendo emphasized that progress is saved per Hero, allowing players to pursue multiple storylines in parallel.
Systems and gameplay
Matches follow Fire Emblem's turn-based tactical formula while introducing systems designed around time manipulation.
Classes span Beginner, Specialty and Advanced tiers with a wide range of roles such as armored knights, wing soldiers, cataphracts and elephant riders.
Combat options include traditional weapons, magic, and unique tools, alongside Combat Arts and Blaze Arts special moves.
A core mechanic called Fortuna's Blessing enables players to rewind to earlier points in battle after making a move, offering a safety net for risky strategies.
Between matches, the capital city of Dagsion functions as a hub.
Players can train in the Arena, shop in the Shopping Arcade, take Certification Exams for new classes, pick up quests, recruit allies, rest at Inns, and venture out on a world map where time advances with movement.
