The game was first revealed via a Twitter post and an introductory video published on July 16, 2024, and Xavier followed up with an extended look on August 20, 2024, sharing new footage on his YouTube channel.
Driftin' Rage positions itself as a classic-style racer inspired by era-defining titles such as OutRun, Top Gear, Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge, RoadBlasters, Crazy Cars III, and WEC Le Mans.
The initial presentation showed the title screen, a driver-selection menu, a music-selection radio, and a simple time-attack mode.
Xavier's updates make clear the project is being designed specifically for the Mega Drive/Genesis hardware and leverages the console's YM2612 sound chip for in-game music.
In the August 20, 2024 video, Xavier provided an extended look at the vehicle selection screen and direct gameplay featuring the Brazuka motorbike competing against seven opponents on one of the game's circuits.
He also shared a tweet listing what appears to be the game's planned 12 track locations and noted he is now moving into the track-programming phase, focusing on each route's weather, opponent behavior, and consistent visuals.
Rewritten from Xavier's update: he explained that development has progressed to programming each track's weather conditions, AI behavior, and consistent graphics across locations.
Xavier also told followers that additional updates and features are planned as development continues.
Gameplay systems visible in the early footage include selectable drivers and vehicles with distinct statistics that affect performance.
Driver attributes shown include strength, dexterity, intelligence, and luck, while vehicle stats are split into speed, defense, handling, and a "Turbo" parameter.
The game also includes an in-game radio for selecting tracks that utilize the Mega Drive's YM2612 audio.
