Square Enix has confirmed the title and release window for the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is slated to arrive in Spring 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside other consoles, the company announced in an official reveal. The announcement follows the recent launch of the second chapter, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which debuted this week and is already playable on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Revelation continues the multi-part retelling of the 1997 classic. The new reveal trailer outlines a high-stakes finale: Cloud Strife and his companions confront a planet in peril while contending with grief over a fallen ally and the near-divine threat posed by Sephiroth. The party takes to the skies aboard the airship Highwind as they race against time to stop a cataclysmic magical force.
Gameplay details released by Square Enix emphasize an open, freely explorable world. Players can deploy from the Highwind and parachute to virtually any location, shifting seamlessly from aerial to ground exploration. The structure allows players to choose destinations, prioritize objectives, and divide tasks among party members. Combat options continue to blend action-oriented real-time mechanics with a hybrid battle system; the developer says the system has been expanded with new playable characters and additional abilities.
Square Enix also confirmed save-data bonuses for players who own previous entries:
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: Summon Materia — Chocobo & Moogle
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Summon Materia — Phoenix
In accompanying developer commentary, producer Yoshinori Kitase reflected on the series’ long history and the team’s desire for players to complete the journey: he described the project as the culmination of emotions and work spanning three decades and emphasized that the experience is realized when players step into the world. Director Naoki Hamaguchi reaffirmed the simultaneous Spring 2027 launch across platforms and framed Revelation as a chapter centered on resolve, where Cloud and his allies confront their convictions ahead of the final battle. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura noted the intention to bring many Final Fantasy VII narratives together so they converge in the Remake series’ concluding entry.
