Description

Final Fantasy VII Remake, one of Square Enix’s most celebrated titles, is making a significant move onto Nintendo platforms.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Naoki Hamaguchi, producer of the action-packed RPG, shared several updates about the game's expansion on Nintendo hardware.

His comments indicate an exciting period ahead for both Final Fantasy fans and Nintendo Switch owners. Set to further broaden its audience, Square Enix plans to release a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake on the Nintendo eShop by year's end.

This marks the first time Nintendo players can experience the acclaimed reimagining of the iconic JRPG since its original debut on PlayStation platforms.

The Nintendo eShop demo aims to introduce players to the game's innovative blend of real-time action and strategic command-based combat, optimized for the Switch experience. Hamaguchi also provided important insights regarding the next chapter, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

He revealed that the development team has already achieved smooth performance with Rebirth running on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The in-progress optimization is being tailored specifically for Nintendo's newest hardware iteration, ensuring that players will enjoy the best possible experience at launch. "We are making sure the game runs well and takes full advantage of Nintendo Switch 2's capabilities," Hamaguchi shared through the Famitsu interview.

This statement underscores Square Enix’s commitment to fully optimizing their flagship RPG series for Nintendo’s evolving ecosystem. In addition to technical updates, Square Enix shared their release strategy for the anticipated finale of the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Part 3.

The team intends to give Nintendo Switch 2 users ample time to enjoy Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth before progressing to the concluding chapter.

This approach highlights the publisher’s plan to provide fans with a thoughtful and immersive experience across the saga’s remaining releases. Final Fantasy VII Remake originally launched in April 2020, garnering worldwide critical acclaim for its modernized combat system and faithful yet expansive reimagining of the 1997 classic.

Since then, it has achieved millions in global sales and led Square Enix to commit major development resources to subsequent entries in the trilogy.

Bringing the title and its sequels to the Nintendo Switch family—and particularly the future Nintendo Switch 2—positions both the platform and legendary RPG franchise for continued success into the coming years. Stay tuned to the Nintendo eShop for updates on the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo release date, and follow official Square Enix channels for additional announcements regarding Rebirth and the evolving lineup for Nintendo Switch 2.
