A Closer Look at the Remake Trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2 Since its original debut in 2020, Final Fantasy VII Remake has garnered acclaim for its ambitious reimagining of the classic JRPG.

Its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 signals a broadened strategy from Square Enix to make this flagship title more accessible than ever.

According to Digital Foundry, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade stands out as a technically impressive port for the Switch 2—demonstrating careful optimization for Nintendo’s latest hardware without sacrificing core gameplay quality. In a recent interview with Nintendo UK, Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi offered insights into the future of the Remake Trilogy.

Hamaguchi confirmed that development on the next two chapters—Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the untitled Part III—is proceeding for the Nintendo Switch 2 in tandem with other platforms, such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

"We are actively developing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as well as the third installment, for Nintendo Switch 2 alongside versions for additional platforms," Hamaguchi affirmed.

He emphasized his commitment to ensuring parity across hardware, noting that his philosophy is to avoid substantial gameplay differences between platforms.

"I want players to have a consistent experience, regardless of their platform of choice.

For Nintendo Switch 2 users especially, they can look forward to gameplay that closely matches what is available elsewhere, even if there may be some visual adjustments." Unifying the Player Experience Across Hardware Hamaguchi underscored the importance of maintaining a unified gameplay experience, suggesting that too much variation between ports could lead to confusion among fans.

"My goal is to ensure there is no ambiguity regarding which version fans should purchase.

Every version, including that for Nintendo Switch 2, is developed to provide the same gameplay experience.

This approach should give peace of mind to Nintendo Switch 2 players," he explained. As Final Fantasy VII Remake leads the way as an exemplary Switch 2 port, anticipation is building for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the trilogy’s third entry.

Square Enix’s steadfast development approach and technological adaptability have secured the Remake Trilogy’s status as a genre-defining series, now fully optimized for a new generation of gamers. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is available now via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2, as well as Xbox and PlayStation 5 consoles.
