Square Enix has officially unveiled a new story trailer for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, confirming its worldwide release for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on September 30, 2025.

This eagerly anticipated tactical RPG marks the celebrated series’ return to Nintendo platforms, offering both enhanced and classic gameplay options to satisfy both new players and longtime fans. Set amidst the intricate political turmoil of the Kingdom of Ivalice, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles invites players to unravel the hidden legacy of Ramza Beoulve, a young noble whose story has long remained in the shadows of history.

Lauded for its compelling narrative and strategic depth, the title stands as one of the most influential tactical RPGs in gaming history. In this new instalment, Square Enix delivers two distinct modes: an enhanced version featuring fully voiced characters, a fully modernized user interface, and overhauled graphics, alongside a classic version that faithfully recreates the experience of the original 1997 release.

Players can opt for the original or the newly polished experience, complete with a revised script and new dialogue, for a customized adventure. The English voice cast boasts a blend of established and new talent, including Joe Pitts as Ramza, Gregg Lowe as Delita, Hannah Melbourn as Agrias, Timothy Watson as Cidolfus, and Harry McEntire as Mustadio.

The cast also features Ben Starr (Dycedarg), and notable cameos from Cody Christian (Cloud Strife) and Briana White (Aerith Gainsborough), both from the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII remake series. Final Fantasy veterans Kazutoyo Maehiro (Director), Hiroshi Minagawa (Art Director), and Yasumi Matsuno (Original Script and Scenario Writer) have returned to lead development, ensuring authenticity and continuity from the classic to the enhanced editions. Key features highlighted by Square Enix include: • Challenging tactical turn-based battles that build on the franchise’s signature strategy, featuring diverse terrains, customization, and a robust character progression system. • An expansive job system, allowing mastery of over 20 character classes such as black mage, dragoon, geomancer, summoner, time mage, thief, and more.

With over 300 character abilities, players can create an endless array of party combinations. • Enhanced gameplay options like speed-up battles, battlefield tactical view, auto-save, adjustable difficulty, and simplified unit turn order checks.

The upgraded UI and additional dialogue further immerse players, while the classic mode preserves the original’s core gameplay and script (including the War of the Lions translation). Square Enix is also offering attractive pre-order incentives.

Standard pre-orders come with exclusive equipment for Ramza, such as the Mythril Knife and Spiked Boots, as well as consumables like High Potion and Ether packs.

The Deluxe Edition includes the Akademy Blade weapon, Akademy-themed equipment that protects and enhances attributes, the Ring of Aptitude (boosts learning speed), and additional Phoenix Down, Black, and Red Equipment for Ramza. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is slated for physical and digital launch on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

This marks a major return of a beloved tactical RPG, offering both innovation and fan-service in equal measure for its September 2025 release.
