Square Enix has officially confirmed that the physical edition of Final Fantasy IX for the Nintendo Switch will be released in Asia on November 27th, 2020.

This anticipated release gives fans of the classic RPG another opportunity to experience the acclaimed adventure on Nintendo's popular hybrid console, now in a collectible cartridge format.

Originally launched in 2000 for the PlayStation, Final Fantasy IX remains one of the most beloved entries in the storied franchise.

Square Enix previously brought the digital version to the Nintendo eShop in 2019, allowing a new generation of players to explore the tale of Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and company.

The new physical edition brings the experience to collectors and enthusiasts who prefer tangible releases. According to Square Enix's announcement via their official Facebook page, the Nintendo Switch physical edition of Final Fantasy IX includes several enhancements.

Players can enjoy high-definition visuals, with original pre-rendered movies and character models polished for modern displays.

In addition, the release features new gameplay boosters, offering options such as a 'high speed' mode and the ability to switch off random encounters—making the journey more accessible to both newcomers and returning fans. "Experience the adventure once again with characters and pre-rendered movies featured in high-definition, as well as a new booster system with a selection of various modes such as 'high speed' or 'no encounters,'" Square Enix said in their statement.

Available for pre-order at Play-Asia, this physical edition supports English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish languages.

According to Play-Asia's product listing, the cartridge is region-free and compatible with all Nintendo Switch systems worldwide, ensuring accessibility for international collectors. Final Fantasy IX's physical debut follows Square Enix's recent success with the release of the Final Fantasy VII / VIII Remastered Twin Pack in additional territories, building anticipation among dedicated series fans for more physical releases in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.

While this edition is currently confirmed for Asia, collectors in other regions will be keen to watch for future localization announcements. With the November 27th release date now set, Nintendo Switch owners have another opportunity to add a legendary title to their physical game libraries.

For fans of Final Fantasy and for anyone new to the franchise, this edition offers a definitive, accessible way to experience a timeless RPG classic wherever they go.
