Description

Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, bringing the classic RPG experience to modern platforms with enhanced visuals and updated features.

The publisher made the announcement on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, during a special livestream event, confirming that the remastered title is immediately available on Xbox (including Xbox Game Pass), PlayStation 5, and PC. Oblivion Remastered is the latest entry in Bethesda's highly regarded Elder Scrolls franchise, which originally debuted with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006.

Developed and published by Bethesda, the original game is celebrated for its expansive open world, immersive storylines, and groundbreaking gameplay mechanics that helped to define the modern RPG genre. The remastered version, announced as part of Bethesda's recent digital showcase, features significant graphical improvements and quality-of-life upgrades, making it accessible to both long-time fans and newcomers.

Oblivion Remastered aims to deliver an experience that stays true to the original's legacy while leveraging the power of contemporary hardware.

In the livestream, Bethesda representatives emphasized their commitment to honoring the original's spirit through extensive visual enhancements and refined gameplay.

The company stated, “Our goal was to modernize Oblivion’s adventure for today’s audience without compromising what made the original great.” As of launch, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, with cross-platform availability including Xbox Game Pass for subscribers at no additional cost.

Players can access the title directly via the respective digital storefronts, such as the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store. Noticeably absent from the announcement was any mention of a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 release.

With rumors circulating about Nintendo's upcoming hardware, many industry observers had speculated about the possibility of Oblivion Remastered making its way to a new Nintendo platform.

However, Bethesda has yet to confirm any plans for the game on either the original Switch or the expected Switch successor.

The absence of a Switch 2 version was noted, but as Nintendo has not officially launched the device, further announcements may still be forthcoming. The Elder Scrolls franchise remains a cornerstone of modern gaming, with Oblivion having sold millions of copies since its original release and established Bethesda as a major developer in the RPG space.

With this remaster, Bethesda reinforces its legacy while adapting to evolving gaming platforms. For now, players on Xbox, PS5, and PC can revisit the world of Cyrodiil in its most visually stunning form yet, while Nintendo fans await further news on possible future releases.

Stay tuned for updates as additional platforms may be announced in the months ahead.
