FromSoftware’s genre-defining action RPG, Elden Ring, is officially coming to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 as Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition.
The announcement brings one of the most celebrated titles in modern gaming to Nintendo’s latest hardware, offering an all-in-one package that combines the base game with its expansive Shadow of the Erdtree downloadable content.
This marks the series’ first appearance on a Nintendo system, extending the reach of Elden Ring to a broader audience.
Originally released in 2022, Elden Ring quickly distinguished itself as a landmark in the Soulslike genre.
Developed by the renowned Japanese studio FromSoftware, the game dazzled critics and players worldwide with its vast interconnected open world, challenging boss battles, intricate lore, and hard-hitting combat—a challenging blend that saw it sell over 20 million copies globally within its first year.
Helmed by visionary director Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with author George R.R.
Martin, the game took home top accolades, including the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is set to deliver the complete experience for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
This definitive edition comprises both the acclaimed base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion, as well as new armor sets and the option to customize the look of Torrent, the player’s iconic mount.
According to Nintendo, the game will target 30 frames per second on Switch 2, ensuring a stable experience without compromising FromSoftware’s signature atmospherics or world design.
A Nintendo spokesperson stated that, with this release, players can expect the same sweeping environments, formidable bosses, and intricate exploration that defined Elden Ring’s release on other platforms.
The move aligns with Nintendo’s recent efforts to expand the Switch 2’s lineup with high-profile, ambitious third-party titles, making the eShop an increasingly competitive digital storefront for blockbuster games.
The announcement trailer showcases familiar sights from the Lands Between, mirroring the visual fidelity and gameplay mechanics that won over millions on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
While further technical details remain limited, early impressions suggest a faithful adaptation that prioritizes core gameplay over cutting-edge graphical enhancements.
With the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition poised for release later this year, fans both old and new can prepare to experience one of the most influential action RPGs of the decade on Nintendo’s next-generation console.
Stay tuned for continued updates on release dates, pre-order information, and additional features as they are officially revealed.
