Koei Tecmo, in collaboration with developer Omega Force, has officially detailed the performance targets for Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the next major installment in the iconic hack-and-slash series, set to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2026.
Renowned for its massive battlefields and hundreds of on-screen enemies, the Dynasty Warriors franchise has consistently pushed hardware to its limits.
With the upcoming release tailored for the latest Nintendo hardware, expectations have run high among fans eager to experience the next evolution of tactical action on Switch 2.
In a recent interview with leading Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, Tomohiko Sho, director of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, addressed community questions about the game's framerate on Nintendo Switch 2.
According to Sho, while the development team had considered a 60fps option, the priority has been stability.
The Switch 2 edition of Dynasty Warriors: Origins will run at a locked 30 frames per second to ensure smooth and consistent gameplay, particularly given the game's unprecedented on-screen scale.
Explaining the decision, Sho clarified via a translated statement: If the team had reduced the number of soldiers displayed—matching prior entries in the Warriors series—a 60fps target would have been attainable.
However, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is designed to showcase thousands of simultaneous characters, and the developers believe that a stable 30fps experience delivers the best balance between visual spectacle and responsive gameplay.
Sho emphasized that leveraging the Switch 2's improved hardware allows for enhanced crowd scenes without sacrificing playability, aligning with the series' reputation for intense, large-scale combat.
Alongside a robust single-player campaign, Dynasty Warriors: Origins will launch with expansive day-one DLC, allowing players immediate access to fresh content and further increasing replay value.
This commitment to ongoing support underscores Koei Tecmo’s dedication to its fanbase and the Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystem.
The announcement follows closely on the heels of another major franchise reveal—Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered—which is also headed to both Nintendo Switch 2 and the existing Nintendo Switch.
Fans can look forward to revisiting classic battles with modern enhancements starting March 19, 2026.
By prioritizing a stable framerate and maximizing the number of on-screen characters, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force continue to set the standard for large-scale action games on Nintendo platforms.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is shaping up to be a flagship title for Switch 2, offering both series veterans and newcomers an immersive and technically impressive battlefield experience.
