The title, developed and published by Square Enix, is a widely known entry in the Dragon Quest franchise and previously released in multiple editions across PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
The Switch 2 edition of Dragon Quest XI S is functionally the same Definitive Edition that arrived on the original Nintendo Switch, but Square Enix is adding a dedicated performance mode option that allows players to prioritize smoother framerates over higher-fidelity graphics on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.
In plain terms, Square Enix acknowledged that while the Definitive Edition already exists on the original Switch, the Switch 2 release introduces a performance-versus-graphics toggle to leverage the newer hardware.
Alongside the performance option, Square Enix confirmed several in-game item sets that will be included with the Switch 2 edition:
- Trodain Set: equipment that can alter the hero’s appearance.
- Baby Boar Set: equipment that can change Veronica’s appearance.
- Happy Adventurer Set: five bottles of Pep Pop and five Seeds of Skill.
Square Enix also clarified upgrade and purchase details: the Switch 2 performance enhancements will not be automatically granted to owners of the Nintendo Switch version.
