Armadillo Racing, Namco's rare trackball-driven arcade racer from 1997, is finally arriving on modern consoles.
Published by Hamster as part of its Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 series, the title launches digitally on July 23, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The release marks the first time Armadillo Racing has been officially available on home consoles.
Originally built for arcades on an enhanced Namco System 22 board, Armadillo Racing put players behind a trackball to roll an armadillo through obstacle courses while racing opponents.
The game never received a port to the original PlayStation, making this re-release notable for preservation and accessibility on current hardware.
Hamster and Bandai Namco have priced the reissue at $14.99 on Nintendo Switch and PS4, and $16.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2.
The PS4 and Switch Arcade Archives builds include the original mode, a hi-score mode and a caravan mode.
Arcade Archives 2 releases on the remaining platforms add an exclusive time-attack mode.
Bandai Namco producer Ryoichi Kaku said the re-release carries personal significance: as a member of the original development team and someone involved in the restoration, he expressed gratitude to long-time fans and players of the Arcade Archives series.
Kaku also noted that while Armadillo Racing plays with a standard controller, connecting a USB trackball recreates an experience closer to the arcade original.
This release is the eighth title produced under the ongoing Namco–Hamster collaboration to bring System 22 and Super System 22 arcade games to home systems.
Previous entries in that partnership include Ridge Racer, Air Combat 22, Aqua Jet, Tokyo Wars, Rave Racer, Cyber Commando and Ace Driver.
Hamster is also issuing additional Arcade Archives 2 releases the same day.
